Casa Unisan, Heritage mansion in Bagac, Philippines
Casa Unisan is a two-story structure built from stone and wood with capiz windows set into the facade. The building was originally constructed as the first stone house in Unisan before being relocated to its current location.
The mansion was built in 1839 by Don Antonio Maxino and served as the first stone building in its community. In 2007 it was carefully dismantled and reassembled at a heritage compound.
The mansion displays traditional Filipino architectural features like sunburst-designed double doors and a roof with Chinese tiles. This blend of local and Eastern styles shapes how the building looks and functions as a cultural marker.
Visitors enter through the historic front facade and can explore the ground floor, which now operates as a cafe serving meals. The layout allows people to experience the original rooms and see the craftsmanship of the stone construction up close.
The building lacks the typical ventanilla windows found in other period mansions, relying instead on enhanced security features in its design. This choice reflects how construction practices were shaped by the practical needs of the time.
