Mount Batulao, Mountain peak in Nasugbu, Philippines.
Mount Batulao is a mountain in Batangas province featuring 12 connected peaks along a continuous ridge with an elevation of 811 meters. The summits form a long chain that takes several hours to traverse completely.
The mountain formed around 3.4 million years ago during the late Pliocene period as part of an andesitic stratovolcano. It sits at the northwestern rim of Taal Caldera, a major volcanic depression in the region.
The name comes from Tagalog words meaning rock and light, referencing how the two main summits seem to glow during December. Many hikers time their visits to witness this seasonal phenomenon.
Two main hiking routes, the East Trail and West Trail, lead to the summit with varying difficulty levels. Local food stalls are scattered along the paths, so wear comfortable shoes and bring extra water for the journey.
The mountain's slopes support forest areas that harbor rare bird species including glossy swiftlets and Philippine hanging parrots. These woodland habitats make it a destination for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts.
