Ghotki District, Administrative district in northern Sindh, Pakistan.
Ghotki District is an administrative area in northern Sindh that covers desert regions, farming lands, and river territory along the Indus. The district is divided into five administrative subdivisions, with Mirpur Mathelo serving as the main administrative center for the population.
The district was created in 1993 when it separated from Sukkur District, though the region has deeper roots dating back to the 12th century when it was ruled by the Bhati Rajputs. Those early rulers left lasting marks on the land's development.
The area is home to Sindhis, Punjabis, Brahuis, and Balochis who coexist and maintain their own customs and ways of life. You will hear Sindhi spoken in daily interactions across the communities.
The area is well connected by roads and railway lines, making travel between towns and surrounding regions straightforward. Getting around is easiest with your own transportation or by using local bus services that connect the main settlements.
The region is home to the Shadani Darbar temple, an important religious site, and several working sugar mills that shape the local economy. Recent natural gas discoveries in the area point to future economic growth potential.
