The county encompasses nine municipalities surrounding Wrocław city, with three main towns: Sobótka, Kąty Wrocławskie, and Siechnice, covering 1,116 square kilometers.
The county emerged in 1999 during Poland's administrative reforms, integrating several municipalities to form a cohesive administrative unit around Wrocław city.
Each municipality within Wrocław County maintains its own traditions and festivals, contributing to the preservation of Lower Silesian heritage through local events.
The district operates with a population density of 167 inhabitants per square kilometer and includes 249 villages spread across urban-rural and rural municipalities.
Despite Wrocław being its administrative capital, the city functions independently as a separate entity while the county manages the surrounding territories.
