Collegium Maximum in Wrocław

The Collegium Maximum is the principal building of the University of Wrocław, a baroque structure erected in the 18th century. It houses lecture halls, administrative offices, and ceremonial rooms decorated with ornamental plasterwork and period paintings.

Construction of this baroque building began in 1739 as part of the expansion of higher education in Silesia under Austrian rule. The project demonstrated the Habsburg commitment to educational development in the region.

The Aula Leopoldina serves as a ceremonial hall where academic celebrations and university events take place throughout the year. Its original baroque decoration creates a formal atmosphere that connects visitors directly to centuries of academic tradition.

The building sits at Plac Uniwersytecki and is accessible through the main entrance. Interior spaces span multiple floors, with some areas open only during guided tours or special university events.
