Wrocław Town Hall, Gothic Town Hall in Market Square, Wrocław, Poland.
Wrocław Town Hall is a Gothic building made of red brick that stands on the east side of the Market Square, surrounded by townhouses. Its facade displays pointed arched windows, decorated gables, and a slender tower rising above the old town rooftops.
Construction started in the late 13th century after Wrocław received town rights, and the building expanded over two centuries. Renaissance elements were added in the 16th century before post-World War II restorations returned it to its Gothic form.
The cellar vaults hold the Świdnicka Piwnica tavern, one of Europe's oldest restaurants, where locals still gather for beer and regional dishes. The Great Hall upstairs, with its carved wooden ceiling, hosts concerts and exhibitions, allowing visitors to experience the space in active use.
The building opens Wednesday through Saturday, and visitors can explore the interior with a museum spread across several floors. The entrance sits at ground level on the main square, so access is possible without stairs.
The tower reaches a height of 66 meters (about 217 feet) and carries an astronomical clock from 1580, with mechanical figures that mark the hours. The clock also displays the seasons through changing symbols that move throughout the day.
