Maniowy, Village in Lesser Poland, Poland
Maniowy is a village situated on the southern slopes of the Gorce Mountains in Lesser Poland. The settlement spreads across different elevations, with newer buildings constructed near Lake Czorsztyn at higher altitudes.
The settlement was established in 1326 and formed part of the early colonization of the Podhale region. During the late 1900s, it was relocated to higher ground as a result of the Lake Czorsztyn reservoir construction.
Saint Nicholas Church serves as the spiritual center and reflects the Catholic traditions rooted in this region. The community here maintains customs and skills passed down through generations from the wider Lesser Poland area.
The village is positioned about 71 kilometers south of Krakow and functions as the administrative center of Gmina Czorsztyn. Visitors benefit most from exploring on foot or by car to take in the mountain slopes and lake views.
The entire community was relocated to a new location in the 1970s, making it a rare example of large-scale resettlement in Poland. Today the modern buildings stand as evidence of this remarkable shift and the village's new beginning.
