Nowa Biała, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Village in Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Poland
Nowa Biała is a village in the Nowy Targ County of Lesser Poland Voivodeship, located in the southern part of the region near the Slovak border. It sits on the left bank of the Białka River, surrounded by mountain meadows and forest.
The village once belonged to the Spiš region, a historical territory that stretched across what is now southern Poland and northern Slovakia. Over time, the Białka River shifted its course, leaving this settlement on the left bank while the rest of the Spiš settlements stayed on the other side.
The Church of St. Catherine stands at the heart of the village and draws visitors who want to see the traditional wooden architecture of the region. Local celebrations tied to religious life take place here through the year and show how the community marks its shared occasions.
The village is best reached by local roads from Nowy Targ, the nearest larger town in the area. Mountain weather here can change quickly, so it is worth checking the forecast before you go.
Nowa Biała is the only Spiš village located on the left bank of the Białka, while all other settlements of the historical region sit on the opposite side. This came about because the river gradually moved its course over centuries, drawing a new natural boundary.
