Former Born & Schütze Factory in Toruń, Industrial heritage complex in Mokre district, Toruń, Poland.
The former Born & Schütze factory is a large industrial complex with multiple buildings spread across Grudziądzka, Wybickiego, Wiązowa, and Lelewela streets. The site contains iron foundries and manufacturing halls from different construction periods, some of which remain visible today.
The works were founded in 1856 by Ernst Schütze and August Born and grew quickly into an important production facility. By 1863 it was already the second-largest foundry in Pomerania and manufactured agricultural machinery and tools.
The complex bears the names of its founders and shows how industrial buildings were constructed during that era. The preserved structures give a sense of what the factory looked like when it was still operating.
The complex is today partly integrated into the Arpol shopping center, so you can see the buildings from the outside and explore some from within when visiting the shopping center. The original architecture remains visible and offers an interesting contrast to the modern retail spaces.
During its peak years the factory was equipped with a modern Siemens-Martin furnace that allowed it to produce high-quality goods. These machines were so capable that products were sold throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa.
