Rybaki, Historical street and district in Poznań, Poland.
Rybaki is a historic district stretching between Old Town and Wilda, with tenement houses displaying Art Nouveau and historicist design elements throughout. The main street Strzelecka runs through the area and serves as its central axis.
The area began as a fishing settlement in the 13th century and first appeared in written records in 1441 as a community centered around the Karmelicka Stream. Most of the buildings standing today were constructed during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The name comes from its past as a fishing settlement, and this heritage shapes the character of the area even today. The old tenements with their ornate facades showcase the craftsmanship of earlier times and invite modern visitors to explore.
The district is easily reached by tram, particularly via Strzelecka Street and the central Łąkowa stop. It makes for a good walking destination through a typical residential neighborhood with narrow streets to explore.
The triangular center of the original settlement remains visible today at the intersection of Rybaki and Strzałowa Streets, preserving medieval urban layout. This arrangement is a rare example of how streets have kept the shape of earlier boundaries and focal points.
