Main post office building in Wrocław

The main post office is a red brick building measuring about 142 meters long with a central tower rising 43 meters high. The structure includes two interior passageways connecting to courtyards, a large main hall for postal services, and additional office spaces throughout.

Construction started in 1926 under architect Lothar Neumann. The foundation required special underground support because the ground had previously been used as a military cemetery.

The facade displays carved reliefs showing everyday scenes with workers, students, and ordinary citizens. These artistic details tell the story of how people lived and worked during the time it was built.

The building is easy to locate on the east side of the old town near the main square. Visitors can admire the facade from street level, and architectural details are most visible on clear days.

This post office was the first tall building erected in Lower Silesia and demonstrated new architectural possibilities for the region. Its construction on former cemetery ground using special foundation techniques was a technical achievement of its era.
