Jizera Meadow

Jizera Meadow spans an alpine valley at 840 meters elevation and displays peat bog areas along with typical mountain plant growth. The terrain is crossed by marked hiking paths and connects via paved cycling routes to the Mountain Lodge.

The area was home to the settlement of Gross Iser until the 1950s, when it was gradually abandoned. The prewar lodge building remained as the only major structure, marking traces of earlier human settlement in the valley.

The Mountain Lodge started as a school building in 1938 and was converted into a visitor shelter in the 1980s through student efforts from Zielona Góra. Today it serves as a meeting point where travelers gather, showing how a forgotten structure found new purpose through community action.

Visit in dry conditions since the boggy ground becomes difficult to cross when wet. Sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are important because temperature shifts happen often in this location.

This location ranks as Poland's coldest zone, with recorded temperatures dropping to minus 36.6 degrees. Frost occurs during every month of the year, highlighting the harsh mountain environment.
