The stone church building stood on the left bank of the Vistula River, controlling the important waterway and land routes between Kujawy and Pomerania.
First mentioned in written records from 1198, the church served as a major religious center until its destruction by Teutonic Knights in 1330.
The church maintained religious services for a large territory stretching from Solec Kujawski to Dobrcz, representing the primary spiritual institution in medieval Bydgoszcz.
The remains of the church structure are located at coordinates 53.1403°N, 18.1533°E, accessible through the Wyszogród district of modern Bydgoszcz.
Local records suggest Saint Adalbert consecrated the original chapel dedicated to Mary Magdalene during his mission to Prussia in 997.
