Śluza Brdyujście, Navigation lock in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
The Brdyujście Lock is a navigation facility in Bydgoszcz with brick walls, steel gates, and a chamber measuring approximately 57 meters long and 18 meters wide. The structure once allowed vessels to travel between the Brda and Vistula rivers.
The lock was built in 1879 by the Bromberger-Hafen-Actien-Geselschaft company as a key link between two rivers. It was decommissioned in 2002 after supporting vessel traffic for more than a century.
The red brick lockkeeper's house with its architectural details tells the story of Bydgoszcz's industrial past. Visitors can see the craftsmanship of the old construction methods reflected throughout the site.
The lock is located on Łowicka Street 56 and is easy to reach on foot. The site underwent major renovation work between 2014 and 2015 and is now open for visitors to explore.
This is Poland's only double-width lock, allowing two vessels to pass through simultaneously. This unusual design feature made river traffic more efficient when the lock was in operation.
