Jaz Czersko Polskie

Jaz Czersko Polskie is a roller dam at the confluence of the Brda and Vistula rivers in Bydgoszcz that regulates water flow using a 22-meter-wide concrete structure with steel cylinders. The system includes multiple technical components for controlling water discharge and maintaining stable water levels across this river section.

The structure was built in 1906 with funding from the city of Bromberg and the Prussian government, initially serving timber transport on regional waterways. It marks the starting point of the Vistula-Oder waterway and remains the oldest functioning roller dam in Poland.

The structure demonstrates early 20th century engineering design with its historical brick buildings and architectural features typical of that industrial era.

The best views of the structure come from the dam crest or riverside paths, which are freely accessible and offer clear sightlines across the installation. The location sits at the city's edge, so plan to use local transportation or a short walk from the city center.

A fish ladder was added in 1999 to help migratory fish navigate past the obstruction. This modification shows how older water structures are updated to address environmental concerns.
