Teatralny Bridge in Poznań, Railway viaduct in central Poznań, Poland
The Teatralny Bridge is a railway viaduct in central Poznań with massive stone pylons supporting two tram tracks integrated into its structure. It connects the Cesarska District with the Jeżyce District by extending Fredry Street across the line.
Built in 1908, the viaduct suffered damage during World War II before being fully restored to its original condition in 1995. This restoration marked a key moment in reviving transportation and connectivity across this part of the city.
The bridge holds memorial plaques honoring journalist Wojciech Cieślewicz and the people who led its 1995 restoration. These inscriptions remind visitors of the individuals whose work brought the structure back to life.
The viaduct is used exclusively by trams, pedestrians, and cyclists since vehicle traffic stopped in 1987. Visitors can easily cross on foot or explore it while enjoying views of the surrounding area.
Though once a major traffic artery, the structure now carries no vehicles and serves primarily as a pedestrian and cyclist link between two neighborhoods on a heavily used route. Its proximity to the Grand Theatre makes it an often overlooked spot where urban movement and cultural life intersect.
