Polana Jakuszycka, Mountain glade in Jakuszyce, Poland
Polana Jakuszycka is a natural glade in the Izera Mountains in southwestern Poland, sitting at around 900 meters above sea level. It is surrounded by forest and serves as the main hub for a network of groomed cross-country ski trails that run through the area.
The glade was originally just an open patch of mountain land and was gradually developed into a winter sports center during the second half of the 20th century. As cross-country skiing grew in Poland, the site gained tracks, facilities, and eventually an international reputation.
The glade is closely tied to cross-country skiing and is known across the region as a meeting point for athletes from Poland and neighboring countries. Every year it hosts the Bieg Piastów, one of the largest cross-country ski races in Europe, drawing thousands of participants.
The glade is easy to reach by car from Jelenia Góra, and parking is available nearby. Mountain weather can change quickly here, so checking conditions before arriving is a good idea at any time of year.
The glade sits in a natural hollow that holds snow exceptionally well, giving it one of the longest cross-country skiing seasons in Central Europe. In some years it is still possible to ski there around Easter, long after nearby lower areas have lost their snow.
