Aguçadoura Beach

Aguçadoura Beach is a wide stretch of white sand along the northern Portuguese coast, bordered by natural dunes and fronted by Atlantic waters. The shoreline offers a gently sloping entrance to the ocean, with open views across the water.

Stone ruins of a traditional windmill stand on the northern dunes, remnants of centuries of Portuguese coastal settlement. This structure speaks to the long history of human activity and resource use in the area.

The local fishing community shapes daily life here, where traditional maritime practices remain woven into the fabric of the place.

The beach has monitored swimming areas with lifeguards from June through September and offers parking and beach access ramps for visitors. Summer months provide the most comfortable conditions and full supervision, though the beach is accessible year-round.

An experimental wave energy facility sits offshore, representing one of the first projects to harness Atlantic waves for commercial power generation. This project sits in an interesting contrast with the traditional fishing practices visible on shore.
