The Church of Nossa Senhora da Anunciação stands on a steep slope overlooking the Guadiana River with five naves supported by cylindrical columns.
Originally constructed as a mosque in the 12th century, the structure transformed into a Christian church during the 13th century with architectural modifications.
The interior design preserves Islamic elements, including a niche-shaped mihrab framed by polylobal stucco blind arches within the Christian religious space.
The church opens from 9 AM to 12:30 PM and 2 PM to 5:30 PM, with extended hours until 6 PM during July, August, and September.
The building combines Gothic, Manueline, and Renaissance architectural styles with triangular staccato merlons and conical pinnacles adorning its exterior.
