Praia da Angrinha

Praia da Angrinha stretches along the Arade River bank between Ferragudo and Portimão, offering views toward the marina. The beach features fine golden sand and low dunes that create a sheltered and compact setting.

The area was shaped in the 17th century by the construction of São João de Arade Fort, which defended the river entrance with artillery batteries. The fort remains at the southern end, marking a key defense point from that era.

The name reflects the geography of the local inlet, and fishermen still practice their craft here using small wooden boats and traditional methods. The northern section near the breakwater shows how this work continues to shape the character of the shoreline.

The shoreline offers no standard facilities such as lifeguards, restrooms, or equipment rentals, so visitors should bring their own supplies. Those seeking beach amenities can find them at nearby Praia Grande or in the surrounding towns.

At low tide, visitors can walk around the fort and temporarily connect with the neighboring inlet, expanding the usable shoreline. This tidal shift creates different exploration paths and reveals hidden sections of the coast.
