Casino da Madeira

Casino da Madeira is a modern gaming venue in Funchal with a distinctive circular design measuring approximately 40 meters across. The structure rests on elevated terrain and is supported by 32 white concrete buttresses that form part of its geometric composition.

The casino project began in 1966 with its opening occurring in 1976, representing an important development in Portuguese hospitality at that time. The timing coincided with growing tourism interest in the Madeira islands.

Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer incorporated his signature design elements of smooth curves and geometric shapes throughout the building's architecture.

The venue sits between Avenida del Infante and Avenida Sa Carneiro, close to Santa Catarina Park in a well-connected area. Visitors can easily reach the location from central Funchal and nearby accommodation options.

The design resulted from collaboration with Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, who brought his signature smooth curves and geometric forms to the project. The building offers panoramic views across Funchal's port and the Atlantic coastline.
