Santa Catarina Park

Santa Catarina Park is a green space in Funchal featuring extensive walking paths and multiple bird enclosures. The grounds include benches, children's play areas, and restroom facilities scattered throughout the layout.

A wooden chapel from the early 1400s once stood at this location before being replaced by a stone structure centuries later. This transformation marked the site's transition from religious purpose to public recreation.

The grounds display various sculptures and statues depicting local figures and historical personalities. These artworks add character to the space and become natural gathering points along the walking routes.

The park features wide, level pathways that work well for different mobility needs and ages. Visit early in the morning or late afternoon for a quieter experience, as the middle of the day can get warm.

Two vintage machines sit on display within the grounds, offering a glimpse into old working methods. One was once used for crushing grapes and the other for laying asphalt on roads.
