The religious complex features a Latin cross layout with a single nave, prominent transept, and barrel vault decorated with coffered panels.
King John I of Portugal donated land in 1399 for the construction of a Dominican monastery, which was later rebuilt between 1624 and 1632.
The church contains medieval tombs, including the national monument of João das Regras, along with notable altarpieces and sculptures by Manuel Pereira.
The church building now belongs to the Portuguese Air Force and has changed its dedication from Saint Dominic to Our Lady of the Rosary.
The architectural elements combine Mannerist features with rectangular windows, straight arch portal, and crowned pinnacles defining the main facade.
