Casa e Quinta de Bonjóia, Historical park in Campanhã, Portugal
Quinta de Bonjóia is an estate in Campanhã featuring formal gardens with camellia trees and multi-level terraces. A palace building sits at the heart of the grounds, positioned to take advantage of the sloped landscape.
The estate was built in 1759 for D. Lourenço Amorim da Gama Lobo under the architectural direction of Nicolau Nasoni. In 1995, Porto City Council acquired the property and has maintained it since.
The gate displays coats of arms linked to Portuguese noble families who shaped the estate over time. Visitors walking through can observe these heraldic symbols and learn how the property reflects the heritage of these connected families.
The property is located at Rua de Bonjóia 185 and features open gardens for public access. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes since the multi-level terraces include exterior staircases and uneven surfaces.
The eastern wing of the palace was never completed, creating an unfinished architectural project with views over the Campanhã Valley and Douro River. This incomplete section offers a striking look at how the estate was designed but not fully realized.
