Parque de São Roque, Urban park in Campanhã district, Porto, Portugal.
Parque de São Roque is an urban park in the Campanhã district spanning about 5 hectares, crossed by paths and gardens full of camellias. The grounds were designed with stone sculptures and seating areas and offer views toward the Douro River.
The site was purchased by the city in 1979 from private ownership and was once part of a quinta, a traditional Portuguese country estate. Converting it into a public park opened the land to residents of Campanhã who had no previous access to this green space.
The park takes its name from Saint Roque, the patron saint against plague, reflecting its spiritual heritage. The chapel that now stands here was relocated from another part of the city and serves as a quiet retreat among the trees.
The park sits on a hillside above the Douro valley and is reachable by foot or public transit from the city center. Since it occupies a slope, comfortable walking shoes are recommended and some paths may be steep.
A boxwood maze grows beneath eucalyptus, jacaranda, and camphor trees, forming a botanical puzzle to navigate. This blend of native and exotic plants makes the experience memorable for those who wander through.
