Castro de Bagunte

Cividade de Bagunte is an archaeological site positioned on a hilltop with stone structures marking different areas of an ancient settlement. The location contains house foundations, pathways, and defensive walls that reveal how the village was organized and constructed.

This settlement was founded in the Iron Age and functioned as a major fortified village protected by defensive walls for centuries. It remained occupied until the Roman period arrived, marking a key chapter in the region's pre-Roman history.

This settlement served as a major hub of the Castro culture with carefully planned neighborhoods and communal spaces spread throughout the fortified area. The arrangement of houses reveals how people organized their daily life within a structured society that valued order and community.

The site is freely accessible during daylight hours with marked pathways connecting different sections of the excavation. Wearing comfortable shoes is advised since the hilltop setting means uneven terrain and slopes that can require steady footing.

Excavations have uncovered both circular and rectangular house foundations, showing that different dwelling traditions existed side by side. This mixture of building styles within the same settlement is unusual and suggests cultural diversity or different time periods.
