Koror, Administrative state in Palau.
Koror is a state in the western Pacific made up of several islands, including Koror Island, Ngerekebesang, and Malakal, connected by bridges. The islands form a compact area where residential neighborhoods, commercial zones, and harbor facilities sit close together.
The region served as a territorial center under Japanese administration until 1944. Control then shifted to the United States and it served as the provisional capital of Palau until 2006.
The name comes from the Palauan language and refers both to the state and its main island, which serves as the country's economic center. Fishermen return early in the morning to small harbors with fresh catches, where local families buy seafood for daily use.
Visitors usually move around the islands by rental car or taxi, as distances between neighborhoods remain manageable. Most shops and services concentrate along the main roads, where finding your way is straightforward.
The island of Koror is home to Dolphins Pacific, where visitors can observe dolphins in their natural marine environment and interact with them under guidance. The facility sits in a protected bay that allows the animals freedom of movement in the ocean.
