Al Khor Towers

Three cylindrical stone towers stand along the coastline of Al Khor Harbor, featuring accessible observation balconies and thick defensive walls measuring 60 centimeters.

The towers were constructed around 1900 to protect the port city and monitor vessels approaching the harbor while safeguarding the vital Ain Hleetan water source.

The architectural design of these defensive structures demonstrates the resourcefulness of local builders who used mud and regional stone for construction methods.

The towers contain arrow-shaped openings near the top that served as vantage points for guards to monitor maritime activities in the surrounding waters.

Guards accessed the tower tops using rope systems, revealing the physical demands required to maintain constant surveillance over the Al Khor maritime region.
