Mureș County Prefecture

Mureș County Prefecture is a three-story administrative building in central Târgu Mureș with pronounced Art Nouveau elements and an ornately designed facade. The structure displays typical features of early administrative palaces with symmetrically arranged windows, decorative ornamentations, and an elaborate entrance area.

The building was constructed in the early 1900s during a period of architectural modernization in Transylvania. The establishment of this administrative seat reflects the reorganization of the region's governance structure and the growing importance of Târgu Mureș as a city.

The building embodies the administrative culture of the region and shows through its architecture the mixed Romanian and Hungarian character of Transylvania. Visitors can see in publicly accessible areas the formal spaces that reflect the role of a regional administrative center.

The building is located in the old town and is easily accessible on foot, best visited during weekday business hours. Some public areas can be viewed, but it is worth asking in advance which parts are open to visitors.

The roof features a striking color combination of blue, red, and white tiles that gives the building its distinctive appearance. This colored roof covering is clearly visible from the street and visually sets the building apart from other structures in the old town.
