Church of the Annunciation, Târgu Mureș

The Church of the Annunciation is a baroque building in central Târgu Mureș with architectural features inspired by Saint Peter's Basilica. The structure features decorative baroque elements on its exterior and a spacious interior arranged for Orthodox worship.

Construction of the building took place between 1926 and 1936, originally serving as a Greek Catholic church during its development. Political changes in 1948 led to a shift in religious administration when Orthodox authorities assumed control.

The interior displays traditional Orthodox religious art with an iconostasis featuring detailed sacred images of saints and biblical scenes. These artworks shape the spiritual character of the worship space.

The building stands next to the city hall, making it easy to locate and access from nearby streets. Regular services are held, and visitors should dress respectfully when entering this active place of worship.

The building merges European baroque style with the traditional layout of Orthodox churches, a relatively rare combination in Romania. This blend shows how different religious designs came together in a single structure.
