Dara

Dara is a mountain summit in the Făgăraș Mountains located at 2507 meters elevation. The peak features steep rocky slopes and is surrounded by alpine meadows that carpet the mountainous terrain.

The Făgăraș Mountains, including the Dara peak, formed through tectonic movements during the Alpine orogeny. These geological processes shaped the current landscape of the Southern Carpathians.

Romanian shepherds maintain traditional grazing practices in the Făgăraș Mountains, passing near Dara summit during their seasonal migrations with livestock.

Hikers can reach the summit via marked trails between June and September, when weather conditions permit safe passage through the mountains. The best climbing window aligns with these warmer months when snow melts and trails become passable.

The summit displays visible layers of crystalline schist that record millions of years of mountain building. These rock formations tell the geological story of how the peak developed over deep time.
