Lespezi, Mountain summit in Făgăraș Mountains, Romania
Lespezi is a mountain summit in the Făgăraș Mountains that rises to 2517 meters above sea level. The peak displays steep rocky faces and numerous stone formations across its northern side.
The peak formed through tectonic movements that shaped the Southern Carpathians millions of years ago. These geological processes created a stable mountain formation that ranks as the fifth highest point in Romania.
Local shepherds maintain traditional grazing practices near Stâna Lespezi, continuing centuries-old mountain agricultural methods in the Făgăraș region.
The route from the Piscul Negru complex takes about four hours of steady climbing through forest and alpine meadows. Red circle markers guide hikers along the path and help prevent getting lost in higher sections.
Below the summit lies Lake Călțun, roughly 380 meters lower, with water colors that shift based on weather and light. These color changes happen because of how sunlight reflects on minerals and particles suspended in the water.
