Râmeț Monastery, Orthodox monastery in Valea Mănăstirii, Romania.
Râmeț Monastery is an Orthodox monastery in a mountain valley near Alba-Iulia, consisting of two churches. The buildings stand among limestone cliffs of the Trascău Mountains.
The monastery originated in the 13th century and underwent maintenance and changes over several centuries. The church paintings were applied in different layers between the 14th and 19th centuries.
The old church displays paintings devoted to Orthodox faith that reflect the artistic tradition of Transylvania. Visitors can observe how religious imagery was created in this region.
The monastery is located several kilometers from the nearest town in a rural mountain area. Access is easiest with personal transport, and visitors should expect varying conditions depending on the season.
During extensive renovation work, the old church was lifted to protect it from moisture damage. This action allowed the medieval structure to be preserved without damaging the building.
