Borzești Church, Eastern Orthodox church in Borzești, Romania
Borzești Church is an Eastern Orthodox place of worship in Romania, built with river stone and brick that features four rounded domes supported by Moldavian arches. The domes are decorated with glazed ceramics that give the building its distinctive appearance.
The building was built in 1493 and 1494 on the orders of Stephen the Great and his son Alexandru to honor an important childhood friend. The location held special meaning for them at that time.
The painted walls inside show a blend of Moldavian, Gothic, and Byzantine artistic forms that visitors can still see today. This artistic mix shaped how the interior looks and tells the story of many cultures that influenced the region.
The house of worship is located near Onești in Bacău County and is easy to reach via the main roads in Romania. Visitors should take time to observe the details of the domes and decorations both outside and inside.
Where the building now stands, an old oak tree once grew, and a tragic event from the time of Stephen the Great happened right at that spot. The tree later became a memorial to this story.
