Bacău County, Administrative district in eastern Romania.
Bacau County is an administrative region in eastern Romania that extends over 6,621 square kilometers between the Eastern Carpathian mountains and the Siret River valley in Moldavia. The territory includes several towns, among them Targu Ocna with its salt mines, Moinesti with oil extraction, and Agas and Comanesti with timber processing operations.
The region formed part of the medieval Principality of Moldavia and played an important role in trade routes connecting Transylvania with Black Sea ports. This location shaped its economic and cultural development for centuries.
The regional museum in Bacau displays collections of Neolithic artifacts, Dacian pottery, and ancient coins discovered in the surrounding areas. These exhibits show how people have lived in this region since very early times.
The region is known for its salt mines, oil deposits, and timber processing operations that form much of the local economy. The best time to explore the area is during warmer months when roads and mountain paths are easily accessible.
The Slanic-Moldova resort in the area is known for its mineral springs that have been used for medicinal purposes for a long time thanks to their special chemical composition. Visitors appreciate these natural baths for their soothing effect.
