Zargidava

Zargidava is an ancient settlement on a hilltop near Brad with remains of fortifications and dwellings from different periods. The excavations have uncovered layers that show how people occupied this place over many centuries.

Research since the 1960s has revealed that people lived on this hilltop from Neolithic times through the Bronze Age and into the Dacian period. Archaeologists found traces of continuous habitation across these ancient ages.

The pottery and tools discovered here show how the Dacians lived and made their everyday items. The craftsmanship reveals a people with practical skills and their own way of doing things.

The site sits on a hilltop and can be reached by foot through pathways leading to the excavation areas. It helps to wear sturdy shoes and be aware of the terrain conditions, as the archaeological zones are open digging sites.

A burial ground near the settlement shows two different funeral practices: some dead were cremated while others were buried in the ground. These differences hint at how the Dacians may have honored their dead in different ways.
