Codrii de Aramă, Nature reserve in Neamt County, Romania.
Codrii de Aramă is a nature reserve in Neamt County protecting a patch of forest on the southern slope of Filiorul Hill. The forest is made up mainly of old oak trees and is connected by marked paths to nearby monasteries.
The reserve was established in 1971 and received its official protection status through national law in 2000. That formal recognition was the first step toward the long-term conservation of the forest.
The forest takes its name from a famous poem by Mihai Eminescu, Romania's national poet, who drew inspiration from the natural landscape of this region. Visitors today walk through the same trees that Eminescu described in his verses.
The forest is best explored on foot along the marked trails that wind through the trees and toward nearby monasteries. Sturdy footwear is a good idea, as the hillside terrain can be uneven underfoot.
Some of the oak trees in the reserve are over 130 years old, placing them among the oldest trees in the area. The forest also shelters more than 300 plant species, making it one of the richest patches of woodland in the region.
