Codrii de Aramă, Nature reserve in Neamt County, Romania.
Codrii de Aramă is a nature reserve in Neamt County spanning about 7 hectares of forest on the southern slope of Filiorul Hill, where centuries-old oak trees grow. The area sits at elevations between 550 and 650 meters and connects through marked trails to nearby monasteries.
The reserve was established in 1971 and received official protection status through national law in 2000. This recognition marked the formal acknowledgment of its importance as a conservation area in Romania.
The forest takes its name from a famous poem by Mihai Eminescu, Romania's national poet, who drew inspiration from the natural landscape of this region. Today, visitors walk through the same woods that once captivated the poet's imagination.
The reserve is best explored on foot using the marked trails that wind through the forest and connect to nearby monasteries. Spring and autumn offer the most pleasant conditions, with mild weather and good visibility for walking.
The forest is home to over 300 plant species, many of which thrive within this protected setting. Some of the oak trees here have lived for more than 130 years, making them among the oldest in the region.
