Cula Cartianu

Cula Cartianu is a three-level brick manor house in Cartiu, Gorj, with thick walls, wide wrought-iron windows, and an exterior staircase on one side. The building preserves a cellar on the ground floor while upper levels contain living quarters connected by a distinctive gallery featuring stone arcades.

The manor house was built in the late 18th century as a fortified residence for a wealthy family. The structure later became a gathering point for military forces during the pivotal events of 1821.

The building displays typical features of a wealthy rural villa from its period, with its massive walls and wide windows reflecting the family's standing. Today visitors can see how daily life unfolded in this region through the preserved rooms and exhibits inside.

The monument sits outside the town center and is reached via a communal road leading toward Turcinești. The site is best explored independently or with local guidance, as it functions as a living cultural venue.

The ground floor was originally designed for storage and wine production, a common feature of manor houses in this region. This layout reflects how farming and food production shaped daily life for the family.
