Zodiac Fountain

The Zodiac Fountain is a historic monument in Bucharest featuring a large elliptical basin with water flowing from two parallel granite walls. Located at the entrance to Liberty Square, it serves as a central focal point within Carol Park and is easily accessed from the main park entrance.

The fountain was designed by architect Octav Doicescu and inaugurated in 1936 during an exhibition called Bucharest's Month, which marked Romania's economic recovery following difficult years. The project was part of a broader effort to enhance the park and promote local craftsmanship during that period.

The fountain displays detailed mosaics depicting scenes from Mioritza, a traditional Romanian pastoral ballad that remains meaningful in local culture. These artworks are visible in the ceramic pieces decorating the basin edges and offer insight into storytelling traditions important to the region.
