The Giants, Stone sculptures in Carol I Park, Bucharest, Romania.
The Giants are two stone male figures standing at the entrance of Carol I Park in central Bucharest, each rising to about 3.5 meters in height. They display naturalistic nude bodies rendered with detailed craftsmanship in stone.
Artists Frederic Stork and Dimitrie Paciurea created these figures as part of a larger composition called Sleeping Beauty. The original installation included a third statue and cave structures that were later dispersed to other locations.
The pair embodies an old Romanian legend about two men turned to stone by unrequited love for the same woman. This myth shapes how visitors interpret and connect with the sculptures today.
The park entrance is in central Bucharest near the Technical Museum and is easily accessible on foot. The sculptures stand right at the entrance, so they are immediately visible without further navigation.
The original artistic vision was a connected narrative with multiple elements intentionally scattered across the park grounds. This made the artwork fragmentary, requiring visitors to follow a path through the park to grasp the complete story.
