Golul Alpin al Munților Făgăraș între Podragu - Suru, محمية طبيعية في رومانيا
Golul Alpin of the Fagaraș Mountains between Podragu and Suru is a protected nature reserve covering about 7000 hectares. The terrain features glacial lakes, steep peaks, meadows and rock formations shaped by ancient ice.
The area was carved by glaciers during the ice age and designated as a protected reserve in 2000. This legal protection ensured the preservation of this wild mountain landscape for the future.
The alpine bowl sits within the Fagaraș Mountains where local communities maintain traditional mountain practices and respect for the land. The landscape shapes how people in nearby villages view and interact with their natural surroundings.
Access is via marked trails that cross steep terrain and require solid footing and careful movement. Bring sturdy mountain boots, warm clothes and water since weather can change rapidly even during summer months.
Brown bears and black mountain goats shelter in the hard-to-reach rock zones of the high peaks. The lakes sitting in the basin are so clear they reflect the surrounding summits with striking sharpness.
