Piatra Albă „La Grunj”, Nature reserve in Mânzălești, Romania
Piatra Albă La Grunj is a pyramid-shaped rock formation composed of white-gray dacitic tuff rising from the floor of Slănic Valley. The stone displays weathered patterns and rises above the surrounding landscape in a distinctive vertical shape.
This rock formation received official protection status in 1995, marking a turning point in conserving Rumnia's natural monuments. The designation recognized the site's geological significance and its value to the region.
The name Grunj comes from a Romanian word describing a narrow passage, reflecting how locals see this landform. A cross marks the summit and draws visitors seeking a viewpoint over the valley.
The site is reached from Mânzălești village via the paved road DJ 203 K running through Slănic Valley. Spring through autumn offers the best conditions for a visit, when weather is stable and paths stay dry.
The shape formed through a rare combination of water and wind erosion, creating this distinctive tower over thousands of years. This erosion pattern resembles famous formations like Brazil's Sugar Loaf Mountain, yet developed in complete isolation.
