Cheile Mănăstirii, Nature reserve in Transylvania, Romania
Cheile Mănăstirii is a nature reserve in the Trascău Mountains with dramatic limestone cliffs and deep gorges. The landscape features various rock formations, including steep walls and complex structures that span several kilometers.
The area received official protection status in 2000 and is now part of the larger Trascău protected zone. This designation was made to preserve the geological and ecological features for future generations.
The site draws climbers and nature enthusiasts who explore the gorges and rock faces throughout the seasons. Locals and visitors alike use the paths to experience the landscape up close and develop their skills.
Best access is via local roads from nearby Teiuș or from Râmeț village, with hiking boots and plenty of water recommended. The trails can have varying conditions depending on the season, so check weather and walk carefully.
A stream flows through the gorges and disappears underground at several points before joining larger rivers below. These underground sections create a hidden network of water passages within the limestone.
