Bernady villa in Sovata

Bernady villa is a residence in Sovata featuring Art Nouveau style mixed with folk design elements from the Székely tradition. The two-story building displays decorative patterns on its facade that reflect local artistic customs and is now protected as a heritage monument.

The building was originally called Etelka Villa before coming into the Bernády family's ownership in 1929 when the mayor's wife purchased it. It gained its present form through major renovations carried out between 1931 and 1935.

The villa shows how wealthy families lived in Sovata during the early 1900s and shaped the spa town's development. The building reflects the blend of European architectural styles with elements characteristic of the region.

The villa is located at Trandafirilor Street 133 near Sovata's salt lakes, which are easily accessible on foot from the site. Visitors should arrive earlier in the day when natural light best illuminates the facade details and the street is quieter.

The extensive restoration work between 1931 and 1935 followed a family tragedy and transformed the house into its current architectural form. This renovation was part of Sovata's broader growth as a spa destination where wealthy families built grand residences.
