Smederevo Fortress, Medieval fortress in Smederevo, Serbia

The fortress extends across 11.3 hectares along the Danube River, featuring 25 towers and thick stone walls arranged in a triangular layout.

Built between 1427 and 1430 under Despot Đurađ Branković, this fortress served as the capital of medieval Serbia until the Ottoman conquest in 1459.

The fortress contains Gothic and Romanesque architectural elements, including the Donjon tower with an inscription in red brick chronicling its construction.

The Small Town section remains open daily from 8:00 to 20:00, with entrance fees of 120 dinars for adults and guided tours through local offices.

Construction materials came from ancient Roman cities, including stones from Viminacium and Margum, along with medieval Serbian burial grounds.
