Church of the Holy Assumption in Smederevo

The Church of the Holy Assumption features a single dome structure with facades combining brick and stone in different masonry techniques throughout its sections.

Dating from the first half of the 15th century, this church was constructed as a tomb chapel for Metropolitan Atanasije of Smederevo within the grounds of an ancient necropolis.

The interior frescoes, created using the secco technique at the end of the 16th century, depict Christ Pantocrator, the Heavenly Liturgy, and Old Testament prophets.

Located in Narodnog Fronta Street near the Old Smederevo Cemetery, the church stands 1 kilometer from the city center, accessible by a 15-minute walk.

The north side of the church contains the burial place of Dimitrije Davidović, considered the father of Serbian journalism, along with a memorial ossuary.
