Military Hospital at Vračar

The Military Hospital at Vračar is a medical facility in Belgrade spread across a large estate with multiple buildings distributed throughout the grounds. The various structures are linked by landscaped outdoor spaces that create a cohesive complex.

The hospital was established in 1904 following land agreements with Belgrade municipality, with construction initiated by Polish doctor Roman Sondermajer. This marked the beginning of a medical institution that would develop into a major healthcare facility for military personnel.

The buildings display German Romanesque influences with simple, functional design focused entirely on medical purposes. The architectural style reflects practical requirements typical of early 20th-century hospital construction.

The complex spans a large area with multiple buildings, so allow time to explore the different structures and layout. Parking is available in the surrounding zones, making vehicle access straightforward.

The complex introduced the pavilion-type architectural concept to the region, a design approach that shaped hospital architecture. This building method allowed flexible and independent functional areas for different medical departments.
