Potpeć Lake, body of water
Potpeć Lake is a large reservoir in the Zlatibor District created by damming the Lim River, stretching approximately 20 kilometers in length. The water reaches depths of up to 40 meters in some areas, with green hills and forests surrounding the shoreline to create a calm setting.
The lake was created by building a dam to generate electricity and harness the river's power for the region. The construction brought power to nearby towns and supported local development.
The lake takes its name from the Potpeć gorge through which the river flows. Locals and visitors share the water for fishing and quiet walks along the banks, making it a gathering place for those seeking simple outdoor activities.
The lake is easily accessible via nearby main roads and can be visited by car or local buses from surrounding towns. The area has no large hotels or busy restaurants, so visitors should arrange lodging and dining in nearby villages.
During unusually cold winters, masses of waste can enter the water and threaten the dam system. Such events reveal how natural processes and human activity impact the lake's operations and require careful management.
