Фрушкогорски манастири

The Fruška Gora Monasteries are a group of sixteen Serbian Orthodox religious buildings located across a mountain region. They are spread throughout the landscape and each displays distinct architectural features and interior decorations.

These buildings were constructed between the 15th and 18th centuries and served as centers of Serbian resistance during Ottoman occupation. They have shaped the region's religious and cultural story for centuries.

The monasteries blend medieval Serbian architectural traditions with baroque features, including ornate bell towers and intricately carved wooden iconostases. These design elements shape how each building appears and make them distinctive landmarks across the Fruška Gora region.

The monasteries are located near Belgrade and Novi Sad and can be reached by car. Krušedol serves as a popular starting point, and their scattered locations allow visitors to plan flexible routes.

Originally there were thirty-five monasteries in this region, but only sixteen remain active and inhabited today. These surviving communities continue to preserve Serbian Orthodox traditions and maintain a living connection to the past.
