Fruška Gora National Park

Fruška Gora National Park is a protected area in Vojvodina, Serbia, covering forested hills and gentle valleys along the Danube. The landscape shifts between dense oak forests, open meadows, and vineyards that spread across several municipalities in the region.

Monasteries were built here between the 15th and 18th centuries, when the Orthodox Church sought refuge and spiritual centers in this area. Fossil discoveries in the rock layers reveal marine life from the Cretaceous period, when the region lay under the sea.

Vineyards cover many slopes and villages in the area, where local cellars grow grape varieties rooted in the region for generations. Walking trails pass through forests that turn bright colors in autumn, making the park a popular destination for hikers and cyclists.

The visitor center in Sremska Kamenica provides travelers with maps and information about routes suitable for hiking and cycling. Most paths are easy to navigate in spring and autumn, when the weather is mild and the vegetation looks particularly appealing.

Some monasteries house icon-painting workshops where monks work using centuries-old techniques, creating religious artworks for churches across the region. The libraries in several monasteries preserve handwritten manuscripts and old prints that are accessible to history enthusiasts.
